Don't Link the Minimum Wage to the Iraq War:
Move the Minimum Wage Bills to a House-Senate Conference
The Let Justice Roll Living Wage Campaign calls for the minimum wage to be removed from Iraq Supplemental legislation being considered in the House and potentially in the Senate. Instead, since the House and Senate already passed separate bills to raise the minimum wage, Let Justice Roll calls on Congress to move minimum wage legislation to a House-Senate Conference without further delay, and give our nation's poorest workers their long overdue raise.
It was immoral to hold a minimum wage increase hostage to a destructive rollback of estate taxes for the wealthy in 2006. It is immoral to tie a minimum wage increase to war legislation for political purposes now.
After a decade at $5.15 an hour without a raise, the value of today's minimum wage is lower than it was in 1950. Each day a minimum wage bill is not enacted is another day families spend working harder and falling further behind.
It's time to stop stalling a House-Senate Conference on the minimum wage bills already passed. It's time to Raise the Wage!
URGENT ACTION:
Tell Congress not to link the minimum wage to Iraq Supplemental legislation, and send the minimum wage bills already passed to a House/Senate conference committee instead.
